Is Cliffhorse The New Goat Simulator?
Taking a far departure from Minecraft, creator Markus “Notch” Persson has unveiled his latest creation, known as Cliffhorse. Where Minecraft was a game all about building and creating, Cliffhorse is anything but. In fact, I’m not too sure as to what Cliffhorse truly is. Even Notch commented about the game saying: “I can’t believe this somehow ended up being my first commercial game after Minecraft.” Not that this game looks terrible or anything like that mind you, but it’s just a major departure from Notch’s previous title.
In Cliffhorse, players control a brown horse which roams around a tropical-like island while pushing a giant ball (which oddly looks like an inflatable cow that’s been blown up.) Since the game is so peculiar it’s hard to place it in a genre. Notch hasn’t commented on what it’s purpose is or what game he is trying to compete with, if any at all. Regardless, the game looks quirky and entertaining and is probably good for a few laughs. Cliffhorse is currently in the “early access” stage, but the game is available for download here on their website. While the game is still considered early access, Notch says there are no guarantees of future updates. As of now, Cliffhorse is only available exclusively on Windows PC. Although Cliffhorse can be downloaded for free, it can also be purchased through the online currency Dogecoin. Notch tweeted earlier today that the game has already earned him around $100 from the Dogecoin purchases.
Notch previously worked on another unnamed title known only as 0x10c, but the game was shelved indefinitely, after Notch claimed he was experiencing a creative block. We’re still not sure what’s next for Notch, and only time will tell if Cliffhorse becomes the next big hit, or simply flops and fades into oblivion. Either way, it will be interesting to see what Notch plans on creating next.
