Valve introduces Steam Reviews

by GH Staff

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where your personal opinion about a game contradicts the official reviews? With the new rating system of Valve – Steam Reviews you will be able to share it.

As simple as it may seem, Steam Reviews do nothing else, but let you read the reviews of others, write your own or get into heated discussions about games. Doesn’t that sound like a simple game forum? The innovators in Valve don’t think so and they might just be on the right track of creating the most honest and precise game and software rating tool.

Opinions about games are most often spread throughout the web, mostly from people who haven’t even played the game. Moreover more and more famous gaming sites are bending over and accepting bribes by game developers and instead of being the friend of the gamer, telling them what’s good to play and what’s not, they’ve became the enemy. This leaves the web without a good source of information about games. However, Steam Reviews is on the verge of changing that.

The main difference between Valve’s and other rating systems is that people can only review a game, if they have it in their library. Not only that, but you will be able to see the playtime of the reviewer on display. That way you will be able to know if the review is a quick opinion from the first scenes and levels of the game, or it is one of a veteran, who played through the whole game and want’s to share their opinion.

You are also able to rate the reviews of the others. That way, if people don’t find a loophole and start exploiting it, Steam Reviews could turn out to be the main place to find just the right information you need to get, before deciding to purchase.

If you feel that you have a talent and are able to give the right rating of every game you play, Steam Reviews could help you nourish it. Write reviews, receive higher ratings for them and you may just become a famous author.

The beta version is already live today and the programmers at Valve are looking forward to adding additional features during the test period. One of the additions will be an overall rating for a product, which will not only be an average of all the ratings, but will take things such as new updates and content into account. That way the overall rating will reflect the current state of the game.

Steam has already proven to be one of the best PC gaming software there is. It lets the players connect, enjoy some amazing games together, share their achievements and even more. With the addition of Steam Reviews, Valve might have just created the thing that every gaming geek needs – an honest review system, which reflects not one person, but the opinion of the whole community. As the beta is live, how things will turn out to be is now up to the gamer. (Thanks Kotaku
