Over on twitter, Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division at Microsoft has been hard at work replying to fans. On user sent Phil a tweet, “Again phil kamiya’s dream game was to make a Zelda game. Any chance to have those guys take kameo and do that? Or is kameo dead?” Spencer responded to this with a simple answer, “I haven’t talked to Kamiya-san about Kameo, he’s kind of busy on Scalebound right now. Interesting idea.” For those who may not know, Kamiya-san refers to Hideki Kamiya, co-founder and Game Director of Platinum games. Platinum games is the developer of such games as Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101 and the upcoming Scalebound.
It also seem that Phil Spencer is excited about working with Platinum games, saying that “Getting to work with @platinumgames, for me, will be a highlight of XBOX One.” As you may know by now, Platinum games is currently working on Scalebound, a new Xbox One exclusive, as well a Bayonetta 2, a Wii U exclusive. Scalebound was just announced at E3 during Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference. We don’t know much about Scalebound at this point, but Platinum Games has a very good track record when it comes to pushing out quality games.
For those that do not know, Kameo, fully titled Kameo: Elements of Power, was a platformer created and developed by Rare and exclusive to the Xbox 360. It was released along with the launch of the Xbox 360 on November 22nd, 2005. It was under development for 4 years before release, and generally received positive reviews. Images of a cancelled sequel also leaked online in 2011, so Microsoft have considered bringing back the Kameo franchise once before. With this information, we can consider that Microsoft may very well reboot Kameo on Xbox One, and Platinum Games would definitely be a good fit.
