The PlayStation 4 has once again trumped the competition in the US as May figures indicate that Sony’s new-gen console has shifted more hardware than any other platform for the fifth month running. Reports say revenue was up 95 percent for the month of May with the console bringing in around $568 million (£345 million).
Software sales have also seen a significant rise with a 57 percent rise to $274 million (£161 million). According to NPD (National Purchase Diary) – a market research company in the US – the PlayStation 4 has sold more software than any other console.
But it’s good news all around for other platforms as well. Nintendo’s 3DS was the second-best selling console for May and with the launch of Mario Kart 8, Wii U sales increased 85 percent.
The PlayStation 4’s success can possibly be attributed to the release of Watch Dogs and the new Wolfenstein, the former of which has been hailed as one of the most anticipated titles of the new-generation era. With the hugely popular Minecraft scheduled for launch this coming August, it’s likely we’ll see console sales increase further.
