Recently, Dean Hall, the creator of Day Z, said that Day Z could very well be arriving on the Xbox One and PS4 as soon as this year. In his interview with Eurogamer, Hall talked about how “We’ve [The team working on Day Z] toyed around what to do with the console side of things.” He clarified that the PC version of Day Z will remain a priority, but, “It’s important for DayZ to evolve if it was on a console in a way that benefits console gamers. It could be [this year].”
Dean Hall has talked about Day Z on console for some time now, but we have yet to hear anything concrete on a possible release until now. He went on to say “We have to get the core aspects of the game finished before we commit to doing anything. Otherwise you make a big announcement and then you wait for six or 12 months.” This simply suggests that when a console version of Day Z is announced, fans may not have to wait too long to get their hands on a copy. But, even with this new information, Hall holds that the PC version of Day Z will indeed remain a priority, and that the team will keep their focus on it.
Hall has apparently been in talks with Sony and Microsoft about Day Z for console, because, as he puts it, “It feels to me like they’re like, we want this on our consoles. Sony has the experience with Dust with CCP, and cut their teeth with, how do we make the processes easier? How do we get these games out?” He goes on to say, “And I think Microsoft are committed to it as well.” And he has also mentioned that, if Day Z were brought onto consoles he and the team working on the game would have to “work with the console manufacturer” in order to discover the strengths of bot the Xbox One and the PS4, then work on adapting Day Z to those individual strengths. He ended off with saying “…I’m cautiously optimistic, which is more than I would have said last year at E3.”
