Renegade X – An amazing Command & Conquer Shooter

by GH Staff

Back in the early days when C&C was up and going and EA hadn’t yet ruined the perfect strategy game series, things were looking well. A team of fans, six years ago, decided to make a shooter based on the never-ending war between GDI and NOD, called Renegade X. And now, we are happy to announce that the guys who started the project haven’t given up and will soon be ready to release this game.

It’s always nice to witness fan-made content, especially when a lot of hard work has been put in it. It just stands to witness how much of an impact a game can have on our lives. Renegade X is no different. The project is based on the 2002 game C&C Renegade. At first, the main idea was to make a mod for Unreal Tournament 3, to bring out the multiplayer aspect of the game. Since then, however, things turned out for the better, when the developers of Renegade X decided to abandon the mod and create a pure stand-alone title.

Six years in the works, the developers Totem Arts can now offer us a beautifully looking trailer and a release date. In the game you will be able to fight either for the Global Defense Initiative, most famously known as GDI or the rebellious forces of the Brotherhood of Nod. Choosing from an extensive weapon gallery of almost 30 high-tech guns and as much as 15 vehicles, you will be able to manage your own economy in the game and even call in Ion Cannons, nuclear strikes and even more things familiar to us from our well-known C&C universe.

The main focus is the multiplayer game, where you will have a team and a base with few important key structures. The main purpose being destroying the enemy camp, the game is a lot more interesting than your average multiplayer shooter, as losing a structure may lead to losing important tactical advantages in the game, such as access to certain weapons.

There also will be a Skrimish Mode, which is nothing else but a stimulation of the Multiplayer game with AI bots in play. However, the developers have thought about psyched players and will not keep you waiting if you want to get a first glimpse and a taste of the game. You can download a free-to-play single player campaign called Renegade X: Black Dawn, which may be short, but is a blast to play and just gets you to imagine how great of a multiplayer this game will have.

The full title will be released as soon as the 26th of February 2014 hits and will be completely free to play. Renegade X may just come to show that sometimes the fans know far better than the developers what a game title needs. Will Renegade X live up to the words of the developers and its potential – we’ll just have to wait and see; however, things are looking quite optimistic and we may just witness an up and coming indie, based on Command & Conquer, blockbuster franchise.
