The Steam Summer sale has begun once again, and this time, there’s plenty of prizes to go around. From wishlist games to exclusive in-game items, we’ve detailed how the Summer Steam sale works and what you need to do to win prizes while grabbing some of the best video game deals ever sold.

Every day, nine games will be featured on Steam’s home page at heavily discounted prices. If previous sales are anything to go off of, these nine sales will last 48 hours, with new ones appearing after 24 hours. Every 8 hours, flash sales will appear below the sales of the day. The old ones immediately disappear. Players can vote on what sales they would like to see in the flash sales with the community choice function on the home page. If a player votes three times, they will receive a summer sale trading card, but more on that later. The sale will last for 11 days, ending on June 30th, with rotating deals throughout the sale.

The meta-game that Steam has created is similar to last year’s, but with a twist. When you buy a game (or click “Get Started”) you will be placed on a team. As with past sales, for every ten dollars you spend, you get one trading card. You also have a chance at getting summer sale trading cards from crafting other game badges. Combine this with the cards you get from voting, and you can rack up trading cards pretty quickly if you’re buying games. There are five teams that compete every day to earn points. When you craft a badge, you earn your team 10 points (or 100, if it’s a foil badge). For the winning team each day, 30 members will get their top 3 wishlist games for free.

Crafting the badge comes with other goodies as well. For each summer sale badge you craft, you will receive 1 random in-game item (5 for a foil), 1 emoticon, 1 profile background, and a chance at a team token that will allow you to switch teams. With all of this motivation, why aren’t you buying games yet? Head over to Steam, get assigned to a team, and go buy some games!
