Rumors are blasting all around following some recent job postings by EA. It may sound a bit far-fetched, but the facts are all there. The job postings from last month just show that EA Canada has a Star Wars team, which is developing a brand-new ‘nex gen open world game.’ This can hardly be a syntax error, because as we can see from this game designer tweet, the studio’s recruiter confirmed that the open game they were working on was indeed a new Star Wars title. The game might be the same one, as the one in production by Visceral Games, and even if you don’t believe that job postings are a validation of a rumor, I believe this one will make you think differently.
Star Wars is a whole universe and even though there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the purchase of the franchise by Disney in recent years, it might prove to be a rather good thing. As we know, EA has had a licensing deal with Disney for almost ten years now, and who knows, this future game might have not been possible. We don’t know when exactly it will hit the shelves, as EA Canada is currently searching for the right people to do the job and team up, we might be looking for a two-three year wait. However, it will be worth it!
The Star Wars franchise has been in the gaming world for quite some time now. We’ve seen and played games of wide variety. Even two MMO’s were released. But although it has had such a variety, we have yet to wait and experience an AAA open-world game based on the vast Star Wars universe.
Last year we were left baffled by the ‘Star Wars 1313’ Trailer, and although LucasArts has been assuring its fans that the game’s production hasn’t been canceled, since February we haven’t heard a lot from the project. Could the game, which EA Canada is working on be the same as the one we failed to understand so much about, but were so psyched? Only time will tell.
Talking about AAA games and rumors, we also notice an interesting French video with some amazing behind-the-scenes footage for the game Remember Me. The video contains a lot of explanation and some unseen footage from past iterations of the game.
Remember Me, as we can understand from the documentary, was originally called Adrift with its first prototype being a sci-fi action game. Focused mainly on wakeboarding around the futuristic flooded Paris scene, the game later became a rather combat-heavy action filled title. After Adrift wasn’t picked up by any publisher, Dontnod made a deal with Sony in the early months of 2010. As Sony was looking for more of an RPG-based game, Dontnod found the perfect middle ground and created a futuristic action-RPG game focused on the flooded Paris. However, in the beginning of 2011 the game was one of the many to be cancelled by Sony, which made Dontnod get back to the more original, fitting idea of Adrift, removing the RPG elements and leaving only the traditional action-adventure package to the game. Changing a bit the style and the game’s aesthetic, Adrift was then noticed by Capcom, and a deal was signed turning Adrift to ‘Remember Me’.
As for more recent news on the game, Dontnod won’t reveal as much, only that they are working on following the June release and that they are considering two new possible projects. Could one of them be a Remember Me sequel? We will have to wait and see
