A lot of Rumors have gone around the web during recent years about Half Life 3 coming to life. Every year we wait in anticipation for the next big expo event, ravaging every bit of information trying to find hope and proof for the development of the next big game in the Half Life franchise. Year after year we get more and more tired, yet the hope is not dead and 2014 may just be the year when all of our dreams will come true, and if not the whole game, we may just receive something to satisfy our hunger for knowledge.
Everything started with the cancellation of Half Life 2 Episode 3, back in 2007, when Valve has taken up Half Life on the high road with episodic content. They, out of nowhere, understood that their methods were wrong and cancelled the third and claimed to be final episode in the HL 2 series. However, fans were not disappointed by Valve’s decision, as they got the news that instead of a third episode they will receive a whole new game.
It’s been quite some time since 2007 though and we have yet to learn anything new about Half Life 3, than we already know. People have been taking advantage, releasing false claims about the upcoming game and recently went as far as registering a trade mark, just to piss off HL fans.
It is unknown why Valve is keeping the game under the mysterious cloud of obscurity. Are they working on a new engine? Most probably, yes, but that doesn’t allow them to keep fans under the altar of the unknown
It is almost like Half Life 3 should not be mentioned. At every interview with developers from Valve no one is even mentioning the game, and when asked about it, they just abstain from commenting on it. However, they haven’t said that it is not in the making.
We are sure that Valve is working on something big. The only reason for the cancellation of the third episode was that they went so far in its development that decided it should be a standalone game. We could just imagine what to expect.
As 2014 is only a month away, we could say that if not this upcoming year, there isn’t a more perfect time for Valve to release more information, if not, the whole game. One of the speculations is that they want to make a big move, by announcing their most anticipated title with the release of their first console, and we think that might just be the case.
Put yourself in the shoes of the creators. If you know that something will blow up the gaming world, why not releasing it simultaneously with another big thing, making an even bigger blast? Probably that is what Valve is thinking; and we can only hope that this is the case.
The second game in the series was released 6 years after the first, and in 2014 it will be 7 years since the release of the last HL game. With Steam Machines right around the corner and their release being also in 2014 there is no other year in which Half Life 3 should be released or at least announced. If this is not the case, I am sensing big riots from HL fans around the world, as everyone is simply strained from waiting year after year, just to be disappointed yet again. Valve, we’re waiting for something related to Half Life 3 in 2014, if not (as anonymous say) expect us.
