[dropcap size=dropcap]A[/dropcap]ccording to Variety, the World of Warcraft feature movie has been postponed again by Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures. Initially scheduled to premiere on December 18 2015, the movie will however be released on March, 11, 2016. While the producers did not explain their motives, most of the fans believe that the postponement was caused by the latest Star Wars movie that is supposed to hit the theatres the same day as World of Warcraft was initially scheduled to.
“Warcraft was expected to open on Dec. 18, 2015, but now that the new Star Wars is opening on the same day, it made sense to get out of the way of the behemoth that is expected to be one of 2015′s biggest releases” said Justin Kroll, film reporter at Variety.
At BlizzCon 2013, the creative talent behind the Warcraft movie, director Duncan Jones gave us some minor details about the production. According to him, WOW will focus on both the human and orc sides of the story, giving us the origin story of Lothar and Durotan.
“One of the real difficult decisions we had was what part of the lore to focus on,” Jones said. Warcraft universe has “such a huge, vast timeline,” and we need to get to “the root of what Warcraft is and where it came from,” he continued.
World of Warcraft is described by its producers as an epic movie, an adventure of astronomical proportions. We tend to believe them as they had to carry it of well with a budget of more than $100 million. The head of the project is Duncan Jones (Source Code and Moon), while Charles Leavitt is supposed to provide the script of his life.
Plans of a feature movie depicting the World of Warcraft Universe started back in 2006, when Blizzard and Legendary Pictures signed a contract. While the initial release date was set to 2009, Warcraft fans received one bad news after another and now, they have to cope with another delay. Let’s just hope the movie will be well worth the wait. What’s your take?
