Eji Aonuma, the main man on the Legend of Zelda series, has dropped some pretty serious hints that their next upcoming title Legend of Zelda Wii U could feature a multiplayer. He didn’t say much but when asked directly about it he responded, “That’s something you will see in the future, maybe next year.” While these comments may well have been referring to the upcoming Dynasty Warriors and Legend of Zelda hybrid, it seems to many that they refer much more closely to the fully fledged title due out next year.

Aonuma and his Legend of Zelda series already made headlines due to their brief appearance at E3. Although very little was shown most people got into a frenzy at the news that this Zelda would be open world, similar in many ways to games like Skyrim. Eji Aonuma went further and said that this would affect the way that players went about solving the wide-ranging tasks and puzzles in the game. The latter of the two are of course a long-established tradition in Legend of Zelda . So the fact that the developers are willing to shake up the formula means it wouldn’t be surprising to see  a wide and varied change across one of Nintendo’s flagship titles. The fact that multiplayer may be included may just be one of these changes. Whether this will be online or through local co-op however is unclear.

No doubt fans are going to be twisted and teased like this right up until the games release. What is clear, however, is that the new Legend of Zelda is going to be a very different beast from its previous instalments. What would you like to see from Legend of Zelda multiplayer options?
