Rebellion Games has come out to talk about Sniper Elite 3 recently, talking a bit about the game’s install size. The game will have an install of around 20 GB, and a day one patch on all systems. But, for Sniper Elite 3 on the Xbox One, the day one patch will be a whopping 10 GB download. Rebellion has said that this will only be for “first wave” retail discs. So, if you buy the game after the “first wave” of shipments or download it right from the Xbox game marketplace, you have nothing to worry about.
Rebellion says the patch is because even after the game was put onto discs, they did not sit around, but continued working on the game, crushing bugs and improving optimization for Sniper Elite 3.
Their full statement is as follows:
“The main part of the update is to sync data between the game’s retail discs and the Xbox Live digital download edition of the game. In the several weeks between sending the code off to manufacture and release, rather than sit around or take a break, we’ve continued to work on the game, making improvements and optimizations. We’ve also begun work on multiplayer DLC and a small part of this update is to introduce a compatibility pack. This is standard for any game that adds DLC – it’s just to make sure everyone can have the same multiplayer experience whether they own DLC or not.”
But, this patch is still a very large download. And for those with a slower internet connection, 10 GB will definitely take a long time. But, Rebellion says “While we understand gamers will be frustrated at the wait, the good news is that the update will actually reduce the size of the game’s total install footprint on their hard drive, and reduce the size of future patches significantly.” They went on to explain “It’s part of this ongoing optimization process that’s enabled Sniper Elite 3 to perform well at a native 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we firmly believe Sniper Elite 3 will be worth the wait!”
Sniper Elite 3 releases July 1st, 2014 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, and PS3. It will cost $49.99 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, and $39.99 on Xbox 360 and PS3.
