Bungie is preparing to launch a game bigger than Halo, Call of Duty and all the other franchises, something that people will marvel at in ten years as one of the best video games of all time, at least that is what the team hope will happen.

The COO of Bungie, Pete Parsons, talked to GameIndustry about the launch, growth and future of Destiny, the new shared-world shooter coming to current and old generation platforms.

Talking about the launch, Bungie is confident that Destiny will launch without any online issues. EA’s Battlefield 4 and Sim City both hit huge issues on the opening weeks, but due to alpha testing Parsons believes Destiny will run smooth.

Discussing the growth of Destiny, Parsons claims the investment from Activision on both promotion and online servers will help a great deal. Destiny is already one of the most pre-ordered titles ever and we expect Activision to go wild with advertisements in the next few months.

Parsons said a few times that Bungie is looking at a ten year franchise, it is something Activision wants from Destiny as well, to be able to invest in the game and keep a solid player-base for at least ten years, instead of a few months. This could kill the game and the studio if unsuccessful, even though World of Warcraft and other PC titles have continued going for a decade, it doesn’t mean a console game like Destiny will be played for more than a few months, unless there is a huge amount of content available.

Bungie does not want to go into business models for Destiny quite yet, but they will not offer any form of subscription. We will most likely see DLC and additional content behind paywalls, making sure players pay their way to more quests, more weapons and more storyline.

Destiny will be launched on September 9 this year, Bungie is preparing to launch more small alpha and beta tests in preparation for the full launch. We expect this to be a huge console seller, but it will be all about the additional content if Bungie wants to keep this going for more than a year.
