Getting Ready for Open Beta: HearthStone Strategies

by GH Staff

If you haven’t still received your HearthStone beta key, don’t worry as the open beta is right at our doorstep and the game will soon be available for all of us to play. However, if you are waiting in anticipation, there is still a way for you to get ready for the game and be even better than people who have already played it. As it is a game of wits and strategy we will get you familiar with everything you need to know once the HearthStone beta becomes available for all.

One of the main decks that are most recommended for starting players is the ‘Murlock Shock’ Shaman deck. The basics of the deck are aggro murlock cards. However, it is not as good as it is claimed to be, and you will be sure to lose almost every game if your opponent has taunt cards. As everyone has access to basic taunt cards, such as the Booty Bay Bodyguard and the Ironfur Grizzly, don’t throw your dice, expecting that you will not meet any taunts on the way. The Murlock Shock may help you, once you reach the higher level players, as everyone is currently experimenting and no one seems to like the Taunt cards as much; however, for a starting player it is definitely not something to look forward to and hardly is the right strategy for someone who just starts to play Hearthstone.

If we are talking about the basic sets of cards, one of the best is Bloodlust. It simply has raw power in it, which neither of the other basic cards has. As Shamans also can summon a totem whenever they like, one of the few chances you have to win, if you are playing against one, is to keep his minions levels as low as possible, and try to keep as many of your as you can on the field. Moreover, if you are building a deck, always ask yourself if it can beat the basic shaman deck, as currently it is one of the most powerful starting decks and you definitely want to be able to beat it at the gate.

If you are building a deck you should look for some basic cards, which every deck should have. One of them is The Coin, which basically gives you additional mana and could be very powerful if used properly, the other being the Novice Engineer. The latter gives you the option to draw another card from the deck and is a definite must. If you can, be sure to add two of each aforementioned cards in your deck, as you will be definitely gaining a lot of power with them. If you believe other cards are more valuable, you may throw one of each away; however, having at least one of the cards in your deck is a must.

The third thing to look forward to is getting legendries. They are the hardest cards to get, especially if you can’t spend a lot of money on decks. If you want to quickly earn more decks and thus increase your chance of having a legendary, it is recommended for you to learn to use the rouge deck. Although the shaman deck is the most powerful deck for starting players, the rouge deck can beat it in an instant, if you know how to play your cards right. So learn to play the rouge deck, beat some people and hope that the decks you buy contain legendary cards.

A good advice and something most players don’t look for is your gold. Especially if you are looking for a free-to-play game and don’t want to spend additional money, save your gold. Use half of it on decks, but be sure to save a lot for arena battles. Arena battles are the quickest way to earn gold and get additional packs of cards.

All in all, Hearthstone is definitely a blast to play and as it is already an eSport and will be coming to tablets and mobiles, it is a game that is worth spending time learning about. Looking forward to the open beta, you can watch some duels, learn some strategies and be prepared for what’s to come in the game.
