There will be no spoilers in this review of Valiant Hearts.
Valiant Hearts was released on the 25th June for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Since hearing about game at the E3 event this year I was instantly in in love with the idea of this game.
Valiant Hearts is a 2D adventure puzzle game is developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and is set around the time of World War 1 telling the story of 5 different protagonists and how their lives have been touched by The Great War.
Valiant Hearts was actually one of my personal highest anticipated game of 2014 because the idea of a historical game like Valiant Hearts seems like something the game industry needs with a warfare game instead of all the shooter games. As the release date of Valiant Hearts was getting close I started to become more skeptical about what was coming. Being really excited about the game made me think “What if it isn’t as good as it looks like its going to be” but that wasn’t the case for Valiant Hearts. I’m not giving out any spoilers so i’ll just talk about what I like about the game but not go into detail of the story.
The graphics are outstanding and beautiful and looked much better than what I was expecting from seeing the preview at E3. The animation in Valiant hearts were very well done. Through just the animation and art style alone I could instantly adapt to the character and what they are feeling or even thinking.
I was also expecting this game to be very emotional and it was, but not the way I expected it to be. There were actually some moments where I would laugh and then some where I actually felt like I could cry. The characters piecing together the story was great because you as the game progresses you start to understand how everything’s linked together which I thought Ubisoft are very smart at doing.
The difficulty of some of the puzzles seemed quite easy but I understand that Ubisoft want players to focus more on the historic story rather then stressing out with the puzzles which was fine for me since I really look for a good story whilst playing games and Valiant Hearts done well to achieve that.
I would highly recommend Valiant Hearts to anybody considering it. This isn’t just game, it’s a very educating lesson of what went on in The Great War.
