As many of you know, a Game of Thrones game had previously been released but was not very popular. A common opinion among those who played it was that the combat sequences were too “monotonous” and that it got boring after a while. Basically, only die-hard fans of the series played it through to the end because of the story. That being said, it’s going to be given another shot thanks to Telltale Games, who has partnered with HBO in an attempt to make a new and improved Game of Thrones game. This game is scheduled to be released in the later half of this year.
Telltale games was also responsible for creating episodic video games from The Walking Dead series. That is also their intention with Game of Thrones, although it is unclear as to whether or not the game will be solely based on the HBO series, or if it will contain elements from the books that didn’t make it to the HBO series as well. Perhaps the game will provide backstories or missions that explain various factors from the HBO series and/or books. George R.R. Martin’s personal assistant Ty Corey Franck is rumored to be helping out as a “story consultant”.
In terms of gameplay, it is expected for the Game of Thrones game to follow the traditional Telltale game style in which your actions will affect how the game unfolds. It is also expected to be an adventure game in which you can interact with your surrounding environment and NPC’s. Your interactions will then impact how the game plays out. Not much has been said about this game yet, however since it is going to be episodic, like the other Telltale games, it is not unreasonable to say that perhaps you will be able to play as multiple characters from the series.
