Since the game was first announced back in February 2012, Starbound has become a rather controversial topic in the gaming world. Some people love it, others despise it and a common ground can’t be reached. However, why should we abstain from loving a game, just because of its graphics? Games such as To The Moon have proved that even with retro 2d graphics, a game can bring a lot more than its modern 3d rivals.
Starbound is a game, which focuses on endless procedurally generated planets and creatures. Giving you the ability to mine for ores and build whatever you like, also featuring randomized dungeons, the game might sound a bit like minecraft; however, it is far more than that. Yes, some features may be the same, but the main focus on the game is different. Moreover you will be facing tough challenges and enemies; you will gain new abilities and as a whole will experience everything a 2d platformer can offer and a lot more.
Starbound is like a combination of games such as Mario, Sonic and RPGs such as Elder Scrolls, with a touch of Minecraft. Amazing in its innovations, it is definitely worth playing. Since the pre-ordering of the game has been given as an option, the fan base of the game managed to help the game reach 2.5$ million in sales.
The beta of the game will be starting today, and for that reason the developers have released a whole new four-minute long trailer, where we can see some of the general gameplay of the game. Some of the more famous gaming youtubers, have also had the chance to play this game, so you can check out their gameplay videos as well: TotalBiscuit, Zisteau, Etho.
If this game proves to be everything that it stands for, and it probably will, we might as well see the best 2d platformer and probably the game that will reach the holy grail of the 2d games. Reaching and expanding the boundaries of your creativity, by letting you enjoy the creation of castles and even whole worlds; this game is not your ordinary 2d game. Featuring endless planets with amazing creatures you will not be tired of the content this game offers. The word ‘repetitiveness’ is simply excluded from the dictionary of the game developers of Starbound. Moreover, like in a true RPG you will be able to level up your character, gaining new abilities and more. This game is simply one, which every gamer who remembers the nice times of Mario and 2D Castlevania, should try. Moreover everyone who wants to explore new worlds, while being able to express their creativity, would love this game.
Starbound is entering its beta stage later today, so if you have already pre-ordered and if you are going to be part of the beta, be sure to check out the official release schedule here. If not, be sure that you will be checking out steam later today, as you will be able to get more info on the game and how to enter the beta there.
