Destiny, an open-world shooter set for release in the early months of 2014, has been covered in the latest issue of Game Informer; there is a ton of new information, about the playable races, the multiplayer availability and other important details.
To start off, the game will have almost the same core experience as the Halo games. You will be going around witnessing various group fights between different enemies. However, this is not exactly a bad thing and if you have played Halo before, you should know that.
The leveling up will be a nice feature, as it will let characters use different skills through upgrades and more. The sceneries are also developed quite beautifully, as the game will be generally focused on places, which the players might go and see. The definition of the game is still under consideration, as it is focused on massive multiplayer, but can’t really be called an MMO. However, it will definitely be a blast to play. Locations in the game will be whole planets, moons and more, featuring our own solar system as well. You will be able to meet alien fractions and interact with them.
We will probably be seeing a lot of updates in the future, as Destiny will not only be focused around a well-balanced gameplay, but also how much content is offered to the player. Bungie is planning on releasing new storylines, locations and other newly developed content as often as possible; to keep his players and make them come back in the game.
As to characters – you will be able to develop more than one character, in order to experience different roles and stories. The known races for now are the Guardians, the Humans, The Awoken and the Exo. The Awoken are people who have survived the Collapse, but can’t really hold it together, so it is a very interesting race to play. The humans are the basic survivors, who are trying to rebuild the Earth’s civilization as it was before, the Guardians are not exactly so much more different, they are basically a cosmetic choice, while the exo are machines, basically robots, which have become self-aware with time, about however forgotten everything their original story after their reboot, during the collapse.
The race choices are bringing you the different stories; however, the class choices are most important as they will give you the role that you will be playing in the game. Whereas in MMOs classes bring different skills, but overall can manage almost all situations the game represents. In Destiny things will be a bit different and it will be of a great matter to the gameplay, which class you will choose.
Overall, the game is said to be released in the upcoming year, with the beta coming in early 2014, so we will have to wait and see, if all the anticipation will be worth it, or not. However, having in mind the new information, it is hardly believed that Destiny will be a disappointment. It may yet bring a new MMO-like genre in gaming. We will have to wait and see.
