As we stand in the early dawn of a new generation of gaming consoles, we’re seeing a lot of new and exciting things coming out of the gaming industry, as we did previously with the advancements of each new console throughout the years. What are we we expecting from PS4 and Xbox One? Many gamers were expecting higher frame rates, bigger resolutions, world-shattering cinematics…basically a prettier generation of games overall. These next-gen consoles have been out for over half a year now and, at this point, we’ve pretty much seen all that we’ve expected and more. What’s ‘more’ you ask? Well there’s new community features like the PS4’s ability to stream live gameplay or even jump into a friend’s game to help, new unifying concepts such as Xbox One’s Smartglass…
Oh, and then there’s VizionEck.
Hailing from the creative mind of VizionEck founder and game developer Michael Armbrust, this self-titled FPS is sure to leave its audience in shock and awe. VizionEck is unlike any other FPS and can seem strange to gamers who stick to their Call of Duty’s and Battlefield’s but it’s really a revolutionary take on a tired genre of gaming. Everything from the strikingly bizarre visuals to the almost abstract gameplay mechanics make this a real black sheep among the PS4’s other ‘larger than life’ AAA titles.
In addition to some very interesting gameplay trailer, Armburst has revealed some tantalizing details about the game that we can all sing to. These include several online features that bring a breath of fresh air into the world of online multiplayer, such as free DLC called ‘Community Unlocks’. This feature requires players to work together as a community to raise their collective ‘Global Rank’ by combining their individual ranks to reach milestones that unlock new elements to online gameplay. It’s a great way to show players that they’re all part of something larger than themselves.
Online is definitely the name of the game with VizionEck. Multiple gameplay modes such as ‘Ranger vs Ranger’ (deathmatch), and ‘Retrieval’ (capture the flag). One of the biggest appeals to couch potato gamers with friends such as myself is local multiplayer, which seems to be a dying element in modern games. Sometimes the best part of playing multiplayer is just having a couple of friends beside you on the couch.
