Who doesn’t want a rare or limited edition skin for their champion in League of Legends? Well, sometimes they are purchased from third-party vendors, leaving many scammed or paying extortionate prices. Riot Games, League of Legends’ developer, has decided to deactivate all skin codes at an attempt to prevent further scamming
An update was posted on the Riot Games forums, breaking the news to the fans by confirming that all players have until July 23rd to redeem the legitimate keys. Then, all skin codes from the 23rd onwards will be no more. Riot Games have said “These sites promise limited edition skins for League of Legends, when in reality they acquire codes illegitimately and exploit players. They charge excessive prices (we found one skin for over $1,000!) and sometimes take payment and never provide the content. You can’t predict the outcome, and no purchase is ever guaranteed regardless of what the seller says.”
Riot Games have also engaged in talks with numerous payment processors to advise them not to accept payments from the fraudulent third-party sellers.
