Could L.A. be the location of the next Fallout game?
In an interview with IGN lead director of Fallout: New Vegas Josh Sawyer offered some thoughts about potential new locations for the next Fallout game. Obsidian were involved in the creation of Fallout: New Vegas, a critically acclaimed title that is preferred by some over Fallout 3. Sawyer also mentioned that, given the chance, he would be very keen to work on the next title in the series.
In this interview Sawyer expressed his penchant for settings on the West Coast of the U.S., saying “we’re close by, and that’s kind of been a tradition for the West coast developers of that stuff”. He expressed interest in turning the post-apocalyptic brush towards Los Angeles and also commented that New Orleans could be a “really cool setting for a Fallout game”. It would certainly make an interesting contrast to see the home of the colourful and vibrant Mardi Gras be a part of a post-apocalyptic setting.
Would they have to call it New-New Orleans?Sawyer also expressed his view that there is ‘an interesting potential’ for an online Fallout game, presumably meaning an MMORPG. If this were to happen then Fallout would be following in the wake of The Elder Scrolls. Both traditionally singe player games who have made forays into online gaming. However it might be wise to stick to single player for now as The Elder Scrolls Online somewhat failed to live up to the hype it had generated in the run up to its release. The game only received a score of 68 from PC Gamer and only 71 on Metacritic. Perhaps it would be wise to make as much out of single player Fallout before turning to it into an MMO.
On top of this, Sawyer also dropped heavy hints about some old favourites returning, specifically a new Neverwinter title as well as Knights of the Old Republic 3. Sawyer claimed that a new Neverwinter game would coincide nicely with the recent release of the 5th edition of Dungeons and Dragons.
