Does anybody know where the Takamaru assist trophy comes from?
Anyone whose been on the Miiverse knows that everyday Sakurai releases a pic of the day. Usually these are based on those unique little things that players may not notice and today’s pic of the day reveals the brand new Takamaru assist trophy.
Nice to know they kept most of his original designChances are you’ve only heard of Takamaru thanks to his appearance as a sticker in Brawl but his actually one of Nintendo’s oldest characters. His first and only game was a Japanese only Famicon game which translates to The Mysterious Murasame Castle (which is now available on the Virtual Console) and it was released the same year as Metroid, Legend of Zelda and the first Kid Icarus game.
Since then his been stuck in cameo roles in games such as in the Japanese version of Wario D.I.Y and as playable one in Samurai Warriors 3 if you collect all 33 Tanuki Statues.
In the post by Sakarui on Miiverse he said that:
“I, Takamaru, have waited many years to appear in Super Smash Bros.! Link, Samus, Pit, and I debuted in the same year! Multidirectional Pinwheel Knife Rook Attack!! (FYI, I’m an Assist Trophy.)”
It’s cool seeing more characters from Nintendo’s back catalogue getting their time in the sun and judging by the name his Multidirectional Pinwheel Knife Rook Attack will be a pain to avoid at close range. Also it’s a nice change of pace for Sakurai to not troll people into thinking that new assist trophies will be new fighters like with Ashley from WarioWare.
Super Smash Bros is coming out for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The 3DS version is due out October 3rd and the Wii U version is due out late this year.
