Runescape has been knocking around for a long time now, over 13 years in fact, and over that time the game has seen a multitude of update and makeovers that have transformed the game into something altogether very different from its initial release all the way back in 2001. It’s a bit late then, that Jagex have announced their first ever expansion pack for the game, titled “The Lost City of the Elves’.
Jagex claims that this is the single largest pack of content to ever hit the free to play browser MMO, and serves as the final arc in the long running elf quest line that’s been constantly updated in some form or another since the game’s initial release at the turn of the millennium. The expansion will apparently be released in small chunks instead of all at once like typical expansions, starting today with the ‘Plague’s End’ patch, which will introduce players to the new gigantic city hub of Prifddinas, a new elf city that will be the biggest to grace the game yet. Further zones will be unlocked when chapters two and three of the expansion are released, expected in September and October respectively.
As per the brand new patch notes, the new expansion will offer players:
• Largest quest (Plague’s End) and largest city in RuneScape (the elf city of Prifddinas)
• Dozens of new skill training methods, new weapons, and armors
• New mini-games, including a combat horde mode
• A max guild social hub for ‘Completionist’ players
• Hundreds of hours of new gameplay
Runescape’s senior narrative designer, David Osbourne, says the the new expansion is a landmark accomplishment in the history of the MMO, that has “captured the imagination of hundreds of millions of players.” over its 13 year run.
