Several months have passed since Battlefield 4 had been released, and the game still has many issues that need urgent attention. There have been so many issues, that many players have started calling the DICE-developed game BETAfield 4. The most frustrated community seems to be the Playstation 4 one, but problems are present on any and all platforms.
DICE has declared that any further projects are still on hold, and nothing takes priority over fixing Battlefield 4. The Swedish developer has announced today that it is wrapping up a large multi-platform patch that should greatly increase the stability of the game. Unfortunately, this situation has been going on for months now, and players are getting pretty fed up with continuous promises of better gaming experience. While some patches fixed some issues, many more have appeared in their wake, and often, patches seem to be doing more wrong than right.
Among the most pressing issues that need attention are:
- Game crashes occurring on all platforms, especially on next-gen consoles
- Desync issues that cause game environments to be in different states for each player
- Rubberbanding
- FPS optimization issues
- The one-hit kill bug that causes a single bullet to hit twice, and which is severely affecting gameplay
- Loss of singleplayer save-game files on the Playstation 4
- Matchmaking issues
- Bugs that cause players to be stuck in various states (kill-cam, revive screen, spectating in defuse mode, etc.)
It’s fairly clear that DICE is overwhelmed with the seemingly endless problems that appear in Battlefield 4. At this point, most people agree that Battlefield 4 was released way ahead of time by EA, and law-suit plans are already emerging. All we can hope for at this point is that this major upcoming patch from DICE will land sooner, rather than later (it’s aimed at an end of January release), and it will finally manage to fix at least some of the most pressing and game-breaking issues.
