Star Wars: Commander was released today on the iOS app store by LucasArts. An action-packed, combat strategy game, Star Wars: Commander takes place during the time of the Galactic Civil War where players chose to either join Darth Vader and the Empire in their mission to take over the galaxy, or join the ranks of Han Solo and Princess Leia in commanding the Rebel forces.

Taking place between the events of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, players take control over a band of mercenaries who have just recently landed on the Planet Tatooine. Looking to establish a new base of operations, the mercenaries settle in the homestead of their leader Saponza where they are almost immediately attacked by a band of thugs working for Jabba the Hut. After defeating the thugs, you receive transmission from Bib Fortuna on behalf of Jabba declaring his anger with them. From there, players are confronted by both Darth Vader and Princess Leia (at separate times of course) where they are presented with the hard decision of joining the Empire or the Rebel forces. This opens up to the story of Star Wars: Commander, where players use cunning strategies to provide support for either side all the while trying to crush the opposite.
The game itself is quite simple to get the hang of and once it gets going it is actually fairly enjoyable. It’s a free to play game with the option for in-app purchases, but it’s still a great game to hold you over until the new Battlefront comes out. Which side will you choose? The Empire or the Rebels?
