Every one of us has felt the sick and twisted pleasure of destroying a virtual vehicle. Whether it would be in free to roam worlds like Los Santos (GTA V) or during races in titles such as DiRT, wrecking your car just for the fun of it is a feeling like no other. However, since the days of Flat Out there hasn’t been a nice enough ‘racing’ game to focus on said perverted pleasure. Until now, that is!
Developed by Bugbear Entertainment, the guys behind Flat Out and Ridge Racer, Next Car Game is focused on awesome destroyable cars and a unique racing experience. Built on the ROMU engine, the game’s main focus is to smash, crash, burn and repeat it all over again.
Although you have the opportunity to compete in normal races, the AI is built with personality. Even if you don’t want to, It would be a game on its own trying to finish a race undamaged by others. But of course, the real heart of Next Car Game lies within its demolition derbies.
In next-gen times, when most developers are competing to deliver the most realistic racing experience, Next Car Game reminds us that gaming technology today and true-to-life physics can be used to bring quite a bit of fun in a game.
Although it is not officially released, Next Car Game is currently available through Steam’s early access. The official release date is set for Spring, 2014 on the PC. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game are in consideration and ‘are possible’ if Bugbear Entertainment manages to raise enough money. A free technical demo of the game’s engine is also available for free to anyone who signs up for the game’s official newsletter.
