Sadly, Rockstar has warned that owners of the 12GB PS3 model and Grand Theft Auto V will need to buy a storage upgrade for their systems if they want to continue playing Grand Theft Auto Online. The system officially no longer has enough space to store anymore upcoming content or future updates required to play the online multiplayer mode. Rockstar has issued a statement saying that, “as the world of Grand Theft Auto Online continues to expand and evolve through ongoing updates, storage limitations of the PlayStation 3 12GB hardware will require owners to purchase additional storage to accommodate GTAV Title Updates after 1.16.”
Players can still enjoy the single player campaign but any and all future updates to the game won’t be available to players who still own the 12GB PS3. So you can actually still play Grand Theft Auto, you just won’t be up to date with all of the future updates that will be released for the game. And obviously, that’s no fun for most gamers who want the most out of the games that they own. New single player Assassination and Flight School missions are scheduled to come out in the near future and no one wants to be left out of that do they?
Thankfully there is a solution, without having to buy another PS3. You can simply swap out the hard drive of your PS3 using the instructions given to you by Sony here. Doing so should give you enough space for future updates as well as allowing you to play Grand Theft Auto Online, which no one should be denied.
