Developers Harmonix have announced a brand new game entitled ‘A City Sleeps.’ The game will be a ‘bullet hell’ shoot ’em up game that uses a twin stick control mechanic. The game will be releasing in October 2014 for Microsoft Windows and OS X. This is a new direction for Harmonix who are most well-known for their Rock Band series and Dance Central series of video games.
In A City Sleeps you control Poe, a ‘dream exorcist’ that enters the nightmares of the citizens of SanLo city to help free them of a force that controls the city. You control Poe with the left and right stick and can shoot enemies to destroy them. If you get close enough to your enemies you can use Poe’s sword which will build up a special meter that once full you can use and it will affect all enemies on the screen. While you fight enemies Poe will also have a trio of ‘ghosts’ that accompany her. Each ‘ghost’ will have a different ability and they can be used in the fight to assist Poe.
With Harmonix’s history in rhythm based video games, it should come as no surprise that the games soundtrack will play a big role in A City Sleeps. Enemy spawns, movement and where they fire are all connected to the games soundtrack giving a new type of challenge to the Shoot ’em up formula.
A City Sleeps is available for pre-order on Steam right now at 15% off for pre-purchases making the price £9.34 or your regional equivalent. You can check out the teaser trailer for A City Sleeps below.
