Dragon Quest Heroes proves that the Dynasty Warriors formula really can work with any franchise
At today’s Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia press conference, Square Enix revealed that they are teaming up with Koei Tecmo’s development studio Omega Force with the announcement of Dragon Quest Heroes, exclusively for the PS4.
The only thing we know about the game so far is its name and what’s revealed in the trailer. We do however know that an evil sorcerer (with an amazing moustache) is leading an army of monsters from the Dragon Quest universe, and only a small group of warriors have the power to stop him.
Like all Dynasty Warrior styled games you’ll be cleaving your way through hordes of enemies, and hordes is a pretty accurate word to describe the numbers of enemies that were on-screen at the same time in the trailer. The number of monsters on-screen is insane and it looks like the game will have a nice variety of monsters ranging from bats to towering Cyclops.
The question that has needs asked at the moment is how will you be able to tell which side the monsters are on, assuming that you’ll have your own army of monsters.
Usually in a Dynasty Warriors styled game you do so by looking at the color of their armour but now we’re fighting monsters. Maybe the monsters will be color coded? Much like the way monsters of the same design have different colours in other RPG’s.
To celebrate the announcement of Dragon Quest Heroes Sony have announced that they will be releasing a Limited Edition Metal Slime PS4, which will launch when the game comes out.
So both Nintendo and Sony are getting their own Omega Force styled games meaning the only company left to announce one is Microsoft, though you really have to ask what Microsoft franchise could work in this style.
