Taking effect in the United Kingdom this month, the Anti-Porn filter is already active in households that opted-in for the new system. Although, the main task of the filter is to block inappropriate porn content, some League of Legends players seem to have problems updating their game because of it.
First noticed by a user named “Summoner Boompje,” the new porn blocking system in the UK seems to block the newest League of Legends patch. The reason behind the blocked content are the two files named “VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj” and “XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj.” Even though it is unintentional and has nothing to do with porn, the new system doesn’t allow these files to be downloaded, supposedly because of the purely coincidental mentioned word sex in the file names.
Although for many the new UK Anti-Porn Filter seems to be an attempt of tampering with free speech, citizens of the UK are able to opt out of the program with a simple phone call to their Internet Service Provider. Some users even suggested that Riot Games simply should change the file names. However, as the suggested file name change is highly unlikely, League of Legend players affected by the issue won’t be able to play their favorite game.
