As some of you may already know, Warframe, the popular Free to Play game that started on PC and made it’s way to PS4, has now arrived on Xbox One. And it’s definitely a game you need to check out. The following is not a full review, as I do not feel I have played enough to honestly review it as of now, but you can expect a review before the week ends, so look forward to that!
To begin, I played Warframe during it’s open beta stage last year. And frankly, I hated it. The game felt clunky, and I thought it was overly complicated. But, I decided to give it another chance on Xbox One. And I can’t believe it’s the same game at all. It feels fresh, fluent, and easier to understand. This is not to say it is perfect, but it’s definitely a huge step in the right direction for both the game and it’s developers.
First off, the overall UI and menu changes are simply astounding. I wasn’t too fond of the original designs in the game’s beta, but I love it now. The menus are still a little glitch and slow at times, but they are simply very appealing.
Second, this sets a good example of how Free to Play can work properly. Mostly everything can be built, as long as you have the patience to find resources and create your items. If you do not, there is of course the option to purchase weapons and other items.
Third, the game itself feels more fluent and easier to control. The combat is fun, and maneuvering around each level is usually a blast. The only thing I run into problems with is any sort of wall running. It’s not as fluent or easy to control as it should be, but luckily it isn’t a necessary aspect of the game. But, other than this, the game, and it’s ported Xbox One controls are very impressive.
And finally, the game is fun. It has some challenging portions, but if you have a friend or two, or even a random squad of players, you’ll be able to overcome it.
So, if you haven’t already, download the game, whether it be on Xbox One, PC, or PS4. It’s free and fun. And it’s definitely a great way to pass the time while you wait for Destiny, because Warframe actually feels a lot like Destiny, with a larger emphasis on gun and melee combat, as opposed to Destiny’s importance on powers.
