The popular Ace Attorney series looks to be taking a major departure from the traditional formula in its next game. Titled in Japan as Ace Attorney: The Adventures of Ryunosuke Naruhodou, it looks like you’ll be playing as one of  Phoenix Wright’s ancestors while attempting to solve crimes in a foreign land. In that sense, you might want to consider this upcoming entry a cross between Assassin’s Creed and Law And Order. We don’t know too much about this epic portable adventure yet, but the details I’m about to share are pretty exciting.

According to some fresh Famitsu scans, (via Kotaku) the next entry in the Ace Attorney saga is set to include London super-detective Sherlock Holmes. The translated text says that Holmes’ reasoning skills sometimes go beyond the scope of what Phoenix is capable of. In a rather interesting twist, Holmes’ sidekick Iris Watson will also be along for the ride as well. However, for the first time, that character will be played by an eight year old genius girl with a PhD. It’s been suggested that Holmes and Watson will use a new collaborative reasoning feature to help Phoenix Wright solve crimes.

What’s not known at this point, is how large a role these two historic characters will play in the next Ace Attorney game. There’s also the possibility that other characters from the Sherlock Holmes universe might make an appearance as well. The good news is, we won’t have to wait too long for an answer to those questions.  Ace Attorney: The Adventures of Ryunosuke Naruhodou is set to release on Japanese 3DS systems in the Spring of 2015. No Western release has been announced, but these new developments sure are interesting.

Can Sherlock Holmes steal the show in the next Ace Attorney? Tell me your thoughts in a comment!
