Nintendo has announced that 3DS owners will have limited online functions while running Super Smash Bros. for 3DS.

With Super Smash Bros. for 3DS releasing in Japan imminently, some new information has been releasing both by Nintendo and users on NeoGaf who have already received the game.

A user on NeoGaf has posted two screenshots from the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS that shows gamers unable to access either Miiverse or the internet browser on their system while running Super Smash Bros. Following this, Nintendo took to the Japanese Miiverse and replied:

“Miiverse cannot be run while this software is being played, so posting screenshots to this community is not possible. When using this software with the New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL, Miiverse can be used while playing.”

While this is the first game to have limited online functionality while being played on an older 3DS model, this could be a trend that Nintendo could follow once the New 3DS is released later this year in Japan and sometime next year in other territories.

For now, all 3DS owners can enjoy Super Smash Bros. for 3DS when it is released in North America and Europe on October 3rd.
