Today on Twitter, Blizzard announced that Hearthstone, their free-to-play online deck building game, has reached 20 million players worldwide:
This milestone is attributed to Hearthstone launching on the iPad back in April, as since that time approximately ten million accounts have been opened. Players were also recently enticed by free access to one of the ‘wings’ of the Curse of Naxxramas expansion, in which 30 new cards were released as well as a slew of adventures based on the World of Warcraft Naxxramas raid. Access to the different wings normally cost players a small fee, or if they’re willing to take the time to earn it, some in-game coin.
Impatience is proving to be quite the boon for Blizzard, however, as players regularly shell out cash in order to purchase new cards or access the online arena for tournament-style play.
The game is planned to be launched for Android in the near future, but no release date has been announced.
