Google Glass has been talked about endlessly for some time now. But, the much talked about gadget is still yet to be launched. The tech giant is still on the testing phase and could ship the product near the second half of the year. Meanwhile, it seems like Samsung is looking to make waves in the same niche and possibly beat Google to launch.
Korea Times reported that Samsung has already registered a patent in Korea regarding smart glasses. According to the patent, the device would display alerts on transparent lenses while connected to a smartphone. The glasses could also be used for other functions like taking phone calls and listening to music.
Samsung is not the only one trying to catch up to Google in the smart glasses department. Sony has been reported to be interested in wearable technology. Korea Times also has the details:
“Well, Google Glass is one-dimensional, while our brand-new Smart Eyeglasses are much more advanced. Sony is confident it will become a threatening force in the market for wearable devices,” a Sony executive directly involved in the development of Smart Eyeglasses, told The Korea Times.
It looks like the race is on.
