New gameplay footage of Gearbox’s MOBA / FPS Battleborn has surfaced on IGN. This “next-gen hero shooter” was announced back in July, and is looking mighty polished at this point with gorgeous character models and hectic co-op gameplay.
In Battleborn the characters are as quirky and larger-than-life as those in the Borderlands series, and Gearbox is clearly banking on you falling in love with the merry gang of misfit heroes from across the galaxy. Each hero has unique and varied combat styles. Rath, for instance, is a swordsman so you’ll be getting up close and personal with the enemies, whereas Thorn is an archer who will be peppering enemies from afar. Also, there’s a ninja mushroom. As IGN points out, “the irreverent humour Gearbox is known for is here in spades, giving levity to the bloodshed.” Expect to be entertained as you run and leap around completing your objectives.
As with most MOBAs, all players characters start at level one, and accumulate experience by completing objectives and killing baddies, allowing you to choose one of two new skills as you level up. This ensures that every game you can try different builds and really get to know all the characters’ skills. However, those who play a lot will have their experience reflected in their profile, which allows them to substitute third choices when they level up. This offers a level playing field for all players, new or old, while still gratifying those who plan to sink hours upon hours into the game.
Missions are broken up into stages and last about thirty minutes during which your objectives vary, but mostly involve quelling massive swarms of robots, and are available in both co-op and competitive flavours. Battleborn offers many different types of enemies to keep you on your toes, all designed by the same team who designed Borderlands’ enemies.
We here at Gamer Headlines can’t wait to work together to smash the robot legions. Expect to see this one launch sometime in 2015 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
