Comparing AhnLab V3 Internet Security & AVG Free AntiVirus For The Best Protection Possible

Another useful feature is that it now supports IPv6. V3 with its Intruder protection and enhanced Firewall protection protects your machine from external threats on the web.

It can also self-identify attacks and respond to them automatically. This proactive feature is highly useful for when a new virus or piece of malware appears prior to being ID’d globally and a pattern update released to cope with it.

The ASD Engine drives a more powerful and robust scanner that doesn’t load down your system even when performing a full system scan.

AVG Free AntiVirus

New and improved for 2014 AVG’s of their free product release is now out and it has proven itself a winner. The AVG free version virus protection package is not full featured package. It lacks many of the extra software that would give you a complete security package. It can be easily upgraded to at a reasonable fee to the latest 2015 release.

The package is a bit difficult to install at times and it is a little annoying, as it wants you upgrade to pay version of the package. However, this package is perfect to go on a clean system or one that is already infected and will do an excellent job in removing various types of malware, viruses, and spyware that is running rampant on the net these days.

Comparison of the two packages

Of the two packages price is a big consideration to many users. Yes, I know we are comparing a free package to a pay package. But, the almost $70 price tag for Ahnlab’s package is felt to be excessive. While the full featured AVG fee based version package is still less expensive and has more functionality.

Another major problem between the two is that AVG, while difficult to install, once it is installed, it is simple to operate. The V3 is not intuitive in the execution and operation of its functions and the manual is a bit misleading.

But the final nail in the coffin is even though Ahnlab’s package is self-protecting it is about 2ageneration or so behind the other products on the market. Which means the bad guys are ahead of the curve, which as with AVG’s more mature product line is better able to adapt to the changing virus threats you will face today?

In The Final Analysis

Both products get the job done. While AhnLab is up and coming in Asia, with 2/3s of the Korean market, it is felt by this reviewer it still lacks the horsepower to deal with the threats facing a computer user today.

The AVG package is scaled down and a pain sometimes to install. However, it has a history of reliability under fire and adapts quickly even in the free version.

The engine that powers the free version is the same for both pay and the free version. AVG doesn’t skimp on that. It’s all the additional packages that add on to it are what they want you to buy. A few commercials this reviewer can live with as long as the work of protecting the PC is being done.

So in the final analysis this reviewer will have to go with AVG’s free version over AhnLab until such time as they catch up with the current more mature scanners and improve their engine’s adaptability to new threats.
