Has Nintendo removed content from their newly released game, Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS in order to avoid a higher ESRB age rating? If rumor is to be believed, apparently so.
Nintendo of America is no stranger to censoring content in their games. For example, Tharja, a character from Fire Emblem: Awakening was censored in the game’s “Summer Scramble” DLC.
Here’s the censored, North American image:
…and here’s the original one.
Interestingly enough, according to rumor and speculation, the very same thing has apparently occurred in Nintendo’s recently released Super Smash Bros. for 3DS.
Tharja was meant to be in the game as a trophy, as screenshots released (presumably by the ESRB) before Super Smash Bros. launch show. However, with the game’s international release, none of the versions – North American, European, or Japanese – contain any evidence of Tharja’s in-game trophy.

Tharja Removed From Super Smash Bros.
Supposedly, Nintendo of America removed Tharja’s character trophy from Super Smash Bros. for 3DS in order to prevent the game from receiving a higher age rating from the ESRB due to her attire being too revealing and/or suggestive for the game’s targeted age demographic.
Keep in mind that the above information is entirely rumor and speculation, and is, in no form or fashion, an official announcement from Nintendo of America or any affiliated parties. This article will be updated with accurate information if, or when, pertinent news emerges.
What are your thoughts on Tharja’s supposed removal from Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS? Do you think Nintendo removed her for being “too sexy” or “revealing,” and that her inclusion would force the game’s age rating to go up a higher tier? Why or why not?
