New 3DS System Update Brings in Themes and Photo Capture

by GH Staff

Out of nowhere, Nintendo has released a brand new system firmware update, which you can download right now, for its Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS consoles that brings a theme feature to the handhelds, a photo capture/sharing option, and overall improvements to the eShop and system stability. This is the first time a Nintendo system allows the integration of themes into the HOME Screen customization options.

First off, the update brings in five pre-installed free themes that you can switch from instantly via the HOME Screen. These themes only include basic colors such as Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink and Black, but they are more than enough to diversify the look of your 3Ds instead of having the basic White original background. In addition, you’ll also be able to download character themes for $1.99 each, or patterns for $0.99 each via the Theme Shop. Not only do they have backgrounds of your favorite Nintendo characters, but they also feature original sound effects and music. These Premium themes currently include Mario , Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds themes, a Mighty Mushrooms theme, and many more. You can check out some sample themes right down below.

The update also brings the ability to capture screenshots and share them via Facebook or Twitter with just a single button press. Sadly, this feature only works in the HOME Screen menu, meaning you will not be able to capture in-game screenshots with this new feature. This new update also improves the eShop Title Information page to provide easier access to videos, demos, user reviews, and other information. Plus, it made a few adjustments to the system stability to enhance the user experience.
