Former Bioshock Dev’s Kickstarter For Bizarre “The Black Glove” Arrives

The Black Glove

Today the Kickstarter campaign for The Black Glove, a project by former Irrational Games developers who worked on both Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite forming their new studio Day For Night Games, has launched and aims to raise $550,000 before November 4th. The game, which was announced back in June, is described as a “metaphysical thriller” in which you are the curator of a 1920s theatre, The Equinox, where “conventional reality” no longer applies:

The Equinox has three creators in residence: the artist Marisol, the filmmaker Avery Arnault, and musical act Many Embers. Their work is in bad shape when you arrive and it’s taken a strange, metaphysical toll on the theatre. Time flows backward in areas. Weird things peek out of once-sealed doorways. Unearthly music plays.

As the latest Curator, it falls to you to get The Equinox back on its feet. It’s your job to change the creators’ past to improve their work in the present. How? The hosts Hazel and Cribbage explain that there are “certain games of skill and chance that allow us to interact with… what you might call ‘fourth-dimensional space.'”

Accomplishing tasks through playing anachronistic games including an arcade game “The Maze of the Space Minotaur” earns you in-game “feats” which allow you to alter aspects of the past of “The Creator” helping restore the theatre to its former glory:

The game is weird to say the least, and frankly looks like a Lynchian pop-culture paradise of epic proportions. Your decisions will alter what direction the theatre will take as it develops:

Based on your decisions, the creators may become influenced by 8-bit video game music, 60s era pop art, Day of the Dead folk art, 70s cosmic comics, anime, multi-media experimental art, cyberpunk fiction, sad-eyed clown paintings, low-budget   b-movies, and more. The choice is up to YOU.

The Black Glove seems hugely ambitious, and with art direction in the style of Bioshock and with such an amazing team behind it this will certainly be one project to keep any eye on. Pledging $20 to the Kickstarter will earn you a copy of the game when it comes out, and of course higher tiers offer better rewards.

The Black Glove aims to launch for PC, Mac, and Linux in late 2015. Check out the Kickstarter video and screenshots below and let us know what you think in the comments:
