Article body:

A few years ago, it was absurd to compare a Nokia phone with a Samsung Galaxy device. However, this changed when Nokia took to the Windows Phone platform. Samsung Galaxy S5 and Nokia Lumia 820 are two incredible phones of 2014 and below is their comparison.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a smartphone for today’s high-end market. It measures 5.59 x 2.85 by 0.32 inches and weighs just 145 grams. Furthermore, it is water and dust resistant. On the other hand, the Nokia is 5.49 x 2.78 by 0.33 inches with a net weight of 150 grams.

Display

The 5.1 inch Super AMOLED screen on the S5 has a pixel density of 432 while Lumia 830’s 5 inch 720 x 1280 pixels IPS LCD screen has 294 ppi pixel density. The Samsung’s resolution is 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Camera

With an LED flash enabled 16 MP rear camera and an aperture size of F2.2, the S5 is an awesome device for taking photos. This camera can also record 4K videos and comes with plenty of features such as phase detection autofocus, exposure compensation, HDR, effects and voice activation. The Nokia is also not badly off. It has a 10 MP rear camera with the same aperture size as the S5. Unfortunately, it can only record 1080p videos. Its front-facing camera is also not as good as what is on the Samsung at 0.9 MP compared to S5’s 2.1 MP.

Hardware and Operating System

These two smartphones are powered by Quad-core processors although running at different clock speeds. Nokia Lumia 830 runs at 1200 MHz while that of the S5 is clocked at 2500 MHz. Moreover, they both have Adreno GPUs. Despite this closeness, Lumia 830 has only 1 GB of RAM yet the Samsung Galaxy S5 has double that. Another great difference between the two phones is their operating systems. Nokia went with Windows Phone 8.1 while the S5 was Samsung’s flagship device for the latest android version, 4.4.2.

Battery

2200 mAh is the capacity of the Lumia 830’s battery while that of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 2800 mAh. This means that you have more talk time and standby time on the S5.

Verdict

As much as you may be intrigued to try out the Windows platform on Nokia 830, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the ultimate winner.
