Halo 2: Anniversary Will Not Run At 1080p

It seems that Halo 2: Anniversary is the black sheep of the Master Chief collection.

Fans were in an uproar today after an IGN interview with 343 Studios revealed that Halo 2: Anniversary will not run at 1080p, despite the fact that the rest of the games in the Master Chief Collection will. Halo 2: Anniversary will run at 1328 x 1080 at 60fps, while the rest of the games will run at 1920 x 1080 native resolution. According to the IGN interview, this had to do with the translation from the classic to the Anniversary engine.

Fans were clambering to know why this is the case when even Halo: Combat Evolved runs at 1080p, prompting Halo franchise development director Frank O’Connor to speak about the resolution issues on NeoGAF:

“Halo CE Anniversary is running Xbox 360 fidelity assets at 1080p with some rendering and lighting improvements. H2A is running higher res textures, geo, characters and animation AND running the OG engine at the same time.”

While it seems unfair to decry over something so trivial, it does really seem odd having one game in a remastered set stand out as inferior to the rest.
