After mistakenly stating that the Wii U Gamecube Controller Adapter would work with any games that currently uses Nintendo’s Pro Controller, Nintendo backtracked and stated that the device is only compatible for Super Smash Bros Wii U. The device also will only work for Wii U, and not Wii. This was Nintendo’s reply to Gamespot when they followed up the story that the device would work across multiple games:
“The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U is compatible with Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U specifically – it is not compatible with any other Wii U software. The adapter is also not compatible with Wii and we apologise for any confusion”
The Gamecube Controller Adapter will go on sale at the same time as Smash Bros Wii U: November 21st in North America and December 5th in Europe. A special bundle will also be available that bundles a new Smash Bros themed Gamecube Controller along with the game and the adapter.
It is unfortunate that the device only works for one game, and it seems like a waste for those who might want to purchase the device for games such as Mario Kart 8.
