Microsoft has joined the smartphones arena and came up with different devices for users to choose from and now it has the Surface Pro 3 which is the successor of the Surface Pro 2 designed with the intention to be a major replacement for laptops and personal computers. If you already have the Pro 2 or the original Surface Pro and you’re wondering what enhancements, if any, were made on the latest release that would convince you to upgrade your tablet, you’re on the right page. Let us compare the two versions in terms of design improvements and figure out if the Pro 3 is worth upgrading to.
Design of Surface Pro 2
This original Surface Pro of Microsoft is thicker than other tablets that are available in the market today although many smartphone users expected that the company to come up with a slimmer Surface Pro 2 device yet it didn’t happen. The same weight and chassis came with the Pro 2 as well as the design but it came with edges that have angular cuts around them and it used magnesium to offer strength and sturdiness. The downside of this version is that there were not that much color options for the users.
As for the size of the Pro 2 compared to its predecessor, nothing was changed actually so the device is still appropriate for operating with two hands instead of just one for more ease and comfort. While the design was still the same with the original, the Pro 2 came with a modern look, feel and appearance that’s why it grabbed a lot of attention when it was launched.
Design of Surface Pro 3
Unlike its predecessor which had almost the same design with its original version, the Surface Pro 3 comes with a plethora of enhancements designed to offer a better tablet experience for its user.
On the screen of the tablet, Microsoft comes with a bigger 12-inch display instead of the 10.6 -inch of the Surface Pro 2. Also, the pixel count was increased to 2160×1440 and the pixel density of 207ppi to 216ppi thus providing clear and crisp snaps for the user.
There were changes made in the aspect ratio which has originally 16:9 to 3:2 on this newer release. As Microsoft claims, this change will surely display more content on the tablet’s screen.
While the Pro 2 came with a dual stand position kickstand, the Surface Pro 3 comes with multiple viewing angles for its new and improved kickstand.
The conclusion on which is better based on the design comparisons lean towards the Surface Pro 3 because it’s more superior and much better than its predecessors but when talking about the price, it’s definitely the older versions that are more affordable than the Pro 3 as it currently costs a lot of money.
