Troy Irving, a gamer in possession of a modded Xbox 360, was fiddling around with some real-time editing, and discovered that Halo 4 has a “third-person camera” setting for every gun in the game.

Halo as a Third-Person Shooter
Upon trying the third-person camera settings out, Irving was surprised that Halo worked surprisingly well as a third-person shooter (ala Gears of War), subsequently playing through the game’s entire campaign from a third-person perspective.
Irving plans to play through Halo 3, Halo: ODST, and Halo: Reach using the game’s third-person camera settings, and stream/record the footage to later upload to YouTube.
However, due to the manner in which Halo 2 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary‘s maps are compressed, Irving has revealed that those particular games cannot be played in the same manner.
Irving stated the following in regards to his discovery:
“I have a modded Xbox, and was messing around with RTE (Real-Time Editing) on my RGH with some friends over and noticed a “Third Person Camera” setting for each gun. Tried it, and to my surprise, I found out that Halo plays shockingly well as a TPS.
So, I decided I’d play through a campaign all in third person; I had a blast. It was a refreshing and interesting change to an already awesome experience.
It was so good that I plan to play through 3, ODST, Reach, and 4 (again) this way. It will be streamed and recorded then uploaded to YouTube so you guys can see what it’s like.
Due to the way the maps are compressed, Halo CE: Anniversary cannot be played like this. There is a debug menu that allows third person, but it places MC in the middle of the screen so that’s a no go. Halo 2 is a completely different platform and even if I could edit things, it’d probably be in the center as well because third person weapons weren’t in that one either.”
