The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the Korean giant’s flagship in 2014 which is without any doubt one of the best-selling smartphones of today, but is it deserving your upgrade from the S4? Let’s try to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of both phones, compare them in terms of design, performance and camera so that you’ll be able to answer the question on whether to upgrade or not.
Display and Design
Brand new design is one of the major things that make the Galaxy S5 different from its predecessor and from the other phones earlier released by the company. It has a soft touch finish which feels kinder on the hands compared to the S4’s a bit tacky glossy plastic. The S5 is heavier, thicker and wider and it is water resistant with IP67 certification which is its advantage from its sibling.
Interface and Functionality
The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes pre-installed with the latest version of the TouchWiz UI called TouchWiz Nature UX 3.0 providing its user with larger icons, fewer clutters and visual cues. This device runs with Android v4.4 KitKat OS. On the other hand, the S4 had the older OS version which can now be upgraded to the same Android 4.4 KitKat that runs the S5. The core apps of the Galaxy Series have been transformed by the Korean giant too and it premiers on the Galaxy S5. The phonebook and text messenger applications now has lesser empty space and as far as keyboard experience is concerned, what users can expect are well-spaced buttons allowing them quick and comfortable typing.
Storage Capacity and Processor
Both phones aren’t very much different from each other in this segment because they have an internal memory of 16GB but the Samsung Galaxy S5 offers more room for expansion. This is because it can support up to 128GB of storage compared to the 64GB only of the Galaxy S4 handset.
As for the processor area, the Galaxy S5 device comes equipped with a quicker chipset than its sibling supported by a quad-core processor that is Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, featuring 2GB of RAM. The running speed for the GS5 is 2.5GHz while that of GS4 is 1.7GHz only. Also, the new Samsung Galaxy comes with Adreno330 GPU that is clocked at a speed of 578GHz which is more than what the GS4 has to offer at a running speed of 400MHz and a GPU of Adreno 320.
Indeed, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has enhancements on it that many users might find convincing enough to upgrade from their Galaxy S4 but the decision might not come easy. This goes for those who are already happy with what they are currently getting from their S4s.
