Uncharted movie back in the works

by GH Staff

The Uncharted Movie appears to be back in the works again, as Sony talks to Director Seth Gordon about heading up the live-action film. Also on board is screenwriter David Guggenheim (Safe House).

Seth Gordon earned his respect in the gamer world with the 2007 documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, which followed hardcore Donkey Kong Arcade gamers trying to get the highest score in the world. Other credits include guest direction on shows like Community, Parks and Recreation and Modern Family.

Uncharted movie rumours have been a source of confusion and heartache for fans over the years. Whilst the cinematic nature of the series seems like it would be an exception of the  more-often-than-not cursed ‘Video Game to Movie’ genre, constant rumors and reports of inappropriate Actors and Directors being asked to join the project have run rife. A few years ago, David O. Russell was apparently writing a script, which was good news, except that he had Mark Wahlberg, Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro as international art dealers, who brushed shoulders with the rich and famous. Not exactly the Uncharted movie fans were expecting.

From there, Neil Burger was given the movie and told news outlets that he was starting from scratch, using the game as his main source of inspiration. Great news for gamers everywhere, but the project again fell by the wayside.

Sony says that they want production to start on the Uncharted movie later this year, so things are once again looking up for the modern-day Indiana Jones.

Now all that’s left to do is listen to the legions of fans online and cast Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion as the wise-cracking Nathan Drake and I think Sony will have a real winner in the Uncharted movie franchise.
