The smartphone is a common necessity and an accessory for most people today.
The number of smartphones in the market has drastically increased as each year companies are producing as much as people are looking for the next big thing. One of the companies leading the pack is Samsung, the tech giant from China. Samsung offers the market mid-range and high-range state of the art smartphones that consist some of the best features on the market.
In the last few years, rumors have highlighted the strong possibility that Samsung will release a smartphone that will be bendable. The release of the Samsung Galaxy Round has proven that the company is capable of developing a smartphone with a flexible device. The Galaxy Round is the first ever in the world to have a curved design with a display that is flexible.
Samsung last year at the CES showed their new flexible OLED display smartphone that made use of the organic light that emitted diode chemicals. For the smartphone to produce a bright and colorful screen, it only took a thin layer of the diode chemicals. The OLED is already used on most Samsung devices. So it wouldn’t take much for the company to create a bendable smartphone. Samsung, opposed to using regular glass, has also placed the OLED diode chemicals over thin plastic.
The rumor for a smartphone with a flexible display has long been the pipeline, but it is only recently that Samsung has taken the steps towards developing and releasing a bendable smartphone.
Samsung’s smartphones that feature OLED are able to bend forwards and backwards without their HD image quality being reduced. Samsung is expected to use the new tech to develop their own new Youm smartphone and tablet product lines.
Why Do We Need Bendable Smartphones?
So that is probably the question you are asking, but while it may seem dumb, it will probably be well received.
There are reasonable three explanations for developing a flexible and bendable smartphone.
Durability
As already noted, the OLED chemicals that were used on the plastic surfaces were able to create a bendable screen. In this regard, the phones have greater durability than displays made from glass. For smartphone users, this is a major plus as it greatly reduces the money that will be spent on repairing the screen each time it gets distorted or cracked. For Samsung, this is one of the best ideas for the tech company.
Weight Issues
It is a known fact that glass weighs more than plastic. Even at equal size to glass, the atomic composition of plastic makes it lighter. A smartphone with a bendable screen will mean that it will lighter in user’s pockets.
Thinner Dimensions
Samsung will naturally provide a thinner phone if the develop the smartphone to be 100% bendable. It can possibly be one of the thinnest smartphones that Samsung has created, and this will win over a few users that are tired of smartphones that are bulky.
Expected Release Dates
While there has been no definite announcement from Samsung on a release date. The probability of a bendable smartphone is much greater than it was a few years ago. Samsung could drop the smartphone anytime in 2016 or possibility within the next year.
