The Amazon Fire TV has just been announced which means that it will now add to the tight competition in the market against giants. In this article, we will try to compare Amazon’s offering to that of other market players like Chromecast, Roku and Apple TV. Read on for the basic rundown.
Amazon Fire TV
Specifically, this digital media player was just officially made available in the market April of 2014 and it is used by many people for playing video games and streaming digital audio using their mobile app or their game controller. Fire OS 3.0 Mojito runs this device which is compatible with the famous Android Jelly Bean OS which will run in other third party apps as well. The dimension of the Amazon Fire TV is 115x115x17.5, it weighs 281 grams and it runs on a quad-core processor which is Krait 300 that is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset. Its clock speed is 1.7GHz supported by the graphics processor which is Adreno 320.
Chromecast
This is a fast-becoming the best way to stream videos which has been around since June of last year and this only costs $35. Aside from streaming videos, its users can also stream audio HD content from local network and the internet using Wi-Fi. This small gadget weighs 34 grams only but its power cannot be underestimated. It runs with an Armada 1500-mini chipset and RAM of 512MB. If there’s any disadvantage of Chromecast is that its internal memory is only 2GB and the user cannot control it from a distance.
Apple TV
The third generation Apple TV costs more than Chromecast at $90 running on the iOS 7.1.2 operating system with RAM of 512MB. Its internal memory offering is better than its rivals though—at 8GB. For this device to work, the user should download an Apple Remote Control through the App Store. This will support optical audio, Wi-Fi, HDMI and microUSB for the user to be able to stream various types of audio and video and this works well with HD televisions.
Roku 3
Among the four digital media players, it’s the Amazon Fire TV which was just launched because the Roku 3 was also offered officially in the market in 2013. This is available in 4 different models with all of them offering support for HDMI with RAM of 512MB each. The user is able to stream more than 1000 channels and its processor speed is clocked at 600MHz.
So do you think the Amazon Fire TV is the best for you or are you leaning towards another option? These are all great options but have different offerings to their users so try to think of what you really need and then take it from there. Best of luck!
