Since September 29, Fluffy Kitten Studios has started a crowd-funding campaign to support a massive multiplayer online project called Ascent: the Space Game; this (optional) PvE video game will contain 270,000,000,000 star systems where the players must build colonies and civilizations on planets while roaming across galaxies. Although the developer has released a free downloadable demo for players to experience the gameplay, they still need financial support to improve and polish both the graphics and user interfaces. Here’s a trailer to see the current quality of the graphics:
As shown from the video, folks can accomplish many things from this unique space game. Though it’s not directly stated from this footage, folks can play two modes: industrial (focuses on harvesting materials to build constructions) or combat (focuses on engaging intergalactic fleet battles to acquire currency to create more spaceships). Regardless of the modes, here’s a list of the completed features:
- Combat (fighter style dogfighting, and big ship broadside duels)
- Trading
- Mission system (combat, transport, passengers, courier, supply, demand)
- Asteroid mining
- Farming and mining on planet surfaces
- Personal starbase construction
- Research
- Manufacturing (you can build and customise your ships, including custom color schemes)
- Interaction with other players (you can see their ships in space, trade with them on the global market, and galaxy-wide chat is enabled)
- Gas giant harvesting. (because sometimes you need things like hydrogen and oxygen!)
- Exploration and Colonization in a galaxy of 270 billion star systems
Before the campaign started , the developers (James Hicks and Chris Mitchell from Fluffy Kitten Studios) have spent more than $70,000 on this ambitious game. As such, they are turning to crowd-funding websites like KickStarter to attract more players and receive financial supporter. Two days ago, Ascent: The Space Game acquired $21, 291 out of $35,000 Australian dollars. Right now, supporters have contributed $22,416, which is $12,584 short from their targeted goal. If successfully funded, Fluffy Kitten will also add the following features to Ascent:
- Active colonists that can walk and talk
- Keyboard interaction with NPCs—similar to classic text-based adventure games
- New gameplay: Hire NPCs to pilot ships, smuggling, crime and punishment, bounty hunting, and assassination
